Es ist absolut faszinierend, wie er sich das Werk von David Gilmour auf neue und höchst virtuose Art zu eigen macht – als Zentralgestirn in den floydianischen Klangwelten von echoes. Dabei bringt Dennis Hormes Fähigkeiten mit ein, die Pink Floyd ursprünglich ausgezeichnet haben und am Ende vielleicht etwas verloren gegangen bzw. zu kurz gekommen sind: Einen offenen Geist, Kreativität und Improvisationsfreude – ohne dabei Komplexität, Erhabenheit und Geist von Pink Floyd zu vernachlässigen.
echoes nehmen ihr Publikum mit auf eine höchst emotionale Reise zur dunklen Seite des Mondes, von der frühen Psychedelic-Phase der 60er über die legendären Meisterwerke „Dark Side of the Moon“, „Wish You Were Here“ und „The Wall“ in den 70ern, bis hin zur Post-Waters-Ära der 80er und 90er. Neben einem umfassenden „Best of Pink Floyd“ kommen dabei auch so manche fast schon in Vergessenheit geratene Werke wieder zu Gehör.
Und dennoch ist ein echoes-Konzert kein Nostalgie-Trip. Vielmehr zeigt die Band mit immenser Spielfreude, Liebe zum Detail, druckvollem Sound und viel Respekt vor dem Original, dass die komplexen Pink Floyd-Epen heute noch genauso faszinierend und aktuell sind wie zur Zeit ihrer Entstehung – zeitlos eben.
echoes präsentieren ein eigens für sie entworfenes, knapp dreistündiges Spektakel, das auch dem audiovisuellen Aspekt der gigantischen Konzerte von Pink Floyd gerecht wird. Ein „Monumentales Konzert“ bescheinigt der Hanauer Anzeiger, „Einfach zu schön“ findet es die WAZ und sogar „Fast unheimlich“ die Allgäuer Zeitung. „Echoes bewiesen, dass sie auserwählt sind“ bilanziert die GNZ, das Main Echo feiert „Die Kopie als Gesamtkunstwerk“. Und geradezu euphorisch fällt das Fazit der Rheinpfalz aus: „Das kann man kaum besser machen. echoes take their audience on a deeply emotional journey to the dark side of the moon, spanning from the early psychedelic phase of the 1960s through the legendary masterpieces The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, and The Wall of the 1970s, all the way to the post-Waters era of the 1980s and 1990s. Alongside an extensive “Best of Pink Floyd,” the band also revives lesser-known and nearly forgotten works.
And yet, an echoes concert is anything but a nostalgia trip. Instead, with immense joy in playing, meticulous attention to detail, powerful sound, and deep respect for the originals, the band demonstrates that Pink Floyd’s complex epics remain just as fascinating and relevant today as they were at the time of their creation—timeless, in every sense of the word.
